"ENGLISH RIVIERA"....."TORQUAY" was once the richest town in England, supporting wealthy rich residents + in many areas one can still view luxurious properties, so start saving those pennies..... Ilsham, near Hopes Nose, has a bespoke luxury palace on the market for a cool £3 million + you can sleep in a different bedroom every night.....July 2018... Today.... The Riviera Urban Geopark defines the area as being abundant in Geological features ....Torquay as your base point you can explore the 400 million year old coastline for miles & miles & miles.... Local Government will have to engage the highest gears to pull certain parts of Torquay out of the grime & dirt, with closed shops, unkempt harbour area, dirty council car parks, a closed shopping centre, boarded up iconic buildings, The Pavilion & Oldways Mansion, that could all be used to keep 'the stars of " TORQUAY" burning 'brightly' + 'brighter'..... On your short enjoyable holidays you should also visit, bright & clean "BABBACOMBE" with its 300ft high promenade views, busy Theatre, wooded Cliff Walks, quiet Cliff Railway, even its own lands slide..... Oldy worldly " COCKINGTON", with its craft fairs & horse carriage wedding events, a small country park, with scenic woodland walks, ponds & streams.....The open grass lawns & wide low tide beaches of "PAIGNTON", with a busy 'modern pier', quaint 'harbour', & those daily iconic 'steam trains', the tank engines, that puff along well photographed coast line sun scapes, passing parks & beaches, along cuttings, up & down steep gradients that 'stop' those 'giants of steam', that sometimes visit on damp days, along to the scenic " DARTMOUTH" river crossing, which is highly praised by foreign students & employees......Visit "BUSY & BRASH BRIXHAM" with its "Tough Fisherman", that work 4 hours on, 4 hours off, 24 hours a day for a weeks sea duty or more, watch out for those 'Pirates' & see the 'rainbow houses' from those busy " WESTERN LADY" ferries that navigate the 5 mile wide bay, the "NAPOLEONIC BERRY HEAD NATURE RESERVE" & its coastal paths that you can trek to "START POINT" or "TEIGNMOUTH"..... Public Transport in the area is well supported with keen 'economy day' tickets on the buses, money saving 'off peak' returns on the old, new trains....Explore " THE RIVIERA", and its amazing natural "400 million year old coastline"...."HAPPY HOLIDAYS 2018".......... Tell the local government what you think of those parts of "TORQUAY" that they have deliberately neglected for years & years....whilst spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on their "TOWN HALL".............. Please act as a responsible person on your visit of a day, month or year...... Dispose of your litter, pet waste in a litter bin.....Consume alcohol in a responsible, sociable manner..... Respect other peoples property & space.....Look after & respect the local wildlife environment at Parks & Gardens, at Nature Reserves, Sea Cliifs & Coastal Paths, Public Beaches...... Remember your "HAPPY HOLIDAYS of 2018 "......Capture that special moment with a special photograph at the "400 milion year old Urban Geopark English Riviera"......

Babbacombe Model Village

Hampton Ave, Torquay TQ1 3LA, UK – 01803 315315

An excellent attraction in Devon. Heard about this place from friends and local tourist information whilst on holiday, so was eager to visit. Upon entering, was amazed at the size of the village! The landscaping and attention to detail is outstanding and there was so much to look at and take in. Over 3 hours was spent here to look at every part of this village, including the small and humourus additions to each varied scene, and the visual & sound effects on selected models. It was great to see new developments of model areas, such as the new city development for 2018; a clever and brilliant addition to this attraction! The cafe, 4D experience and golf was not visited so cannot comment on these sections. Overall, a very enjoyable attraction and a must if visiting the local area or visiting Devon! Would recommend to anyone and will definitely return.

Exceeded my expectations. Amazing models with such a variety there is something for everyone. Gardens truly splendid and so well looked after. Took a picnic for outdoor benches so didn't try restaurant. Entrance is quite pricey, but spent a good 2 to 3 hours there and it is a beautiful place to be. Moving models with audio, and quirky humour added all add to the interest.

Torquay's Dinosaur World

3 Victoria Parade, Torquay TQ1 2BB, UK – 01803 298779

Unassuming frontage, but once inside we were greeted by friendly staff who gave us a fun quiz to do and told us how to find the dinosaurs our son could climb on. Plenty of exhibits and fun facts relating to them. It took about an hour to get round, which for the low price was good value. All in all couldn't fault it. Will return in the future. Thank you for a good experience!

Kids loved it, the adults gave each other a few raised eyebrows regarding the some of the displays, and how tight we were all packed in, but ultimately my kids and all the kids there had a ball, and that's worth a lot. The staff approached the children with dinosaur facts and were having fun too, and the kids are allowed to touch some of the displays, which is admirable. I would suggest making the adult tickets slightly cheaper as it really isn't one for the big kids. You might not rush to go back regularly, but its worth a visit, especially for the under 6s

Excellent marina and staff, location perfect for relaxation with secluded cove's within easy reach. Nightlife second to none with endless possibilities, great dining and live entertainment within 200yds of the Dock office. As quiet or lively as required.

The staff and berth holders at MDL Marina in Torquay couldn't have given us a warmer welcome. They've given us so much useful advice and always have a smile on their faces. A lovely marina in an unbeatable setting!

Torquay Harbour

Beacon Hill, Torquay TQ1 2BG, UK – 01803 292429

Nice place to wonder around. Some super boats parked up. Plenty of every thing coffee shops, boat trips, pubs, and eateries. Serviced by plenty of busses. Spent a nice few hours there. Walking, coffee stops and out along the harbour wall.

A picturesque corner of Torquay from where you can grab a day trip out to see the seaside or a ferry over to Brixham. Plenty of bars, restaurants and gift shops surround the harbour so you can fine whilst watching the boats. It's also right on the edge of Torquay town centre so you can go shopping if you wish, or catch a bus to other parts of Torbay

English Riviera Sight Seeing Tours

Torquay Station/Rathmore Rd, Torquay TQ2 6NU, UK – 01803 215652

Must beautiful place visited from England!!!

Living Coasts

Torquay Harbourside, Beacon Quay, Torquay TQ1 2BG, UK – 01803 202470

What a treat! We spent about 4-5 hours there because the kids wanted to watch nearly all of the feeding experiences. The keepers are lovely and helpful, they are happy to talk about the animals at any time and the experience is well worth the time and money. We went to Paignton Zoo first and upgraded the family ticket to visit Living Coasts and we didn't regret it. It was such a lovely thing being so close to the penguins, the birds and the seals. And I think our favourites were definitely the cheeky otters!

Living coasts was smaller than we had anticipated, it only took a few hours (and we went round twice). The experience very much seems to be geared towards you listening to every animal talk going. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Did not eat in the cafe but seemed reasonably priced. Typical gift shop.

Local Parks & Gardens

Torwood Gardens

Torwood Gardens Rd, Torquay TQ1 1EG, UK – 01803 207797

A lot of benches to sit on and plenty of grass to have picnic on. The only downside is that it's close to a main road so it's not really a "peaceful" park but if you live nearby then it's a good place to walk your dogs.

Manor Gardens Exmouth

5 Happaway Rd, Torquay TQ2 8ED, UK

Fantastic little park although iit needs some TLC at present

Very good

Union Street Gardens

Torre Abbey Museum

The King's Drive, Torquay TQ2 5JE, UK – 01803 293593

Fascinating to this old Abbey which is very well told in multimedia. Some great videos really bring the place to life. Also you can dress up and investigate the old house like an archaeologist. The gardens are well designed with a medieval area, a space devoted to Agatha Christie's killer herbs and an excellent glass house.

It's easy to overlook Torre Abbey. But for a step into tranquillity from the bustle of Abbey Sands and the Meadow, it is well worth the visit.. Eight pounds adult entry fee is great value compared to similar historic sites. There is a good mix of displays, from involved histrionic information boards, to more accessible progection displays to children's historic dress up! With an interesting sweep of objects telling mainly of the local history. There is an excellent & extensive collection of art, if small watercolours and large oil canvas' are your thing. Then there's the gardens. Easy to find a quiet spot to see well stocked beds of plants as well as a large hot houses of exotics. So if you're a local, go and see as sometimes unknown gems are on your doorstep. And if on holiday and looking for a rest from the beach & prom, check it out.

Bettesworths Property Agents and Chartered Surveyors

Bettesworth Estate Agents 29-30 Fleet Street, Torquay TQ1 1BB, UK – 01803 212021

I would like to thank Matthew and all the team at Bettesworths for selling my business for me. My primary contact was Matthew Bettesworth who I found to be excellent, during the process Matthew took a well-deserved short break and at no time did I feel in his absence the process slowed. As any business owner knows you are only as good as your team, I can honestly say I found all who I had dealings with at Bettesworths to be first class, knowledgeable and offering excellent advice to any concerns or queries I may have had. (If I were writing a TripAdvisor review, it would be five stars, offering excellent customer service in a timely fashion, very knowledgeable of the product, offering value for money and yes I would return) Buying and selling a business should not be an emotional or emotive process, that said when you have worked damn hard to create a successful business as any small business owner knows you put a bit of you into it. There were times I became irritated with the process, Matthew was like a wise father, I felt comfortable seeking his advice and following it. From my observations as business owners and potential business owners we often make the process of buying or selling a business unnecessarily difficult at times. I believe Bettesworths offered good sound advice and although I was Bettesworths client Matthew would point out it was equally as frustrating for me as it was for the people purchasing my business. I would have total confidence in using Bettesworths services again whether buying or selling a business and would be confident a good deal could be achieved to the benefit of all parties involved. Matthew I hope our paths cross in the not too distant future. Kind Regards Richard Shepherd

Great and friendly staff and superb service
